Alex and Matt were a joy to photograph -- partly because they're absolutely nuts about each other, as you can see. They got married at the Golden Hotel courtyard, within walking distance of where Matt popped the question, which was on that cool pedestrian footbridge in Golden that stretches over Clear Creek.
Their long list of family photos was a big priority, but they also wanted to relax as much as possible after their ceremony, so Alex and Matt opted to spurn tradition a wee bit by doing a "first look." It's a little bit of a Romeo and Juliet moment, wherein the couple sees each other for the first time, before the ceremony happens. A lot of folks do it to calm nerves. Do you get so anxious that you fear you might get weak in the knees on the way down the aisle? You might want to do a first look.
A more practical reason for a first look is to do a portrait session with your partner before the ceremony. You're all gussied up, perhaps have spent a pretty penny on makeup or hair, boutonnieres and bouquets are the freshest they'll be all day...so why not get a genuinely emotional photo session while you're lookin' fresh?
Alex and Matt did their first look because their family list was on the longer side, and they didn't want to go through the intensely emotional wedding ceremony only to spend another chunk of time taking family and couples' photos before they went to enjoy their reception. So, we got all of that out of the way, and they got to enjoy their cocktail hour!
We had all the time in the world that day, it seemed. So we took a stroll down Clear Creek and took in the sights.
One of Matt's brothers contributed to the ceremony string ensemble.
If you want to make a quick friend out of Christie (the C in JXC Photo), have a cupcake display at your wedding.
And us Colorado wedding photographers love a good bubble exit (no accidental fires!).
Congratulations, Alex & Matt!
The couple had a few things to say about working with us, too:
"Josh and Christie were our favorite vendors, hands down. They were amazing and we can't recommend them highly enough. They didn't give us the slightest eyebrow raise when we told them how long we wanted to book them and handed over an exhaustive list of group and family photos we were hoping to collect. The way they worked together as a team was very impressive; they kept us and our emotional families organized and ahead of schedule all day, offering a level of service that we did not expect. One example of this above and beyond service is when it came time for us to cut our wedding cake; we had not committed much (if any) thought beforehand to this part of the evening. We had cupcakes for our guests, and a small cutting cake for tradition and photos. There were no plates on the dessert table, and when we realized this Josh dashed across the room to a service platter and raced back with plates and utensils for Alex and I. We continued to look at him like a deer in the headlights (as our 'cutting of the cake' experience was nonexistent up to this point), so while in full photographer mode he coached us through the event as our friends and family cheered on. This is just one of many examples we could share of how Josh and Christie exceeded our expectations and helped assure we had an amazing day. Thank you Josh and Christie!!"
